Uniform thickness. Every time.

A handmade brass welt mill for thinning wet leather welts to a precise, consistent thickness. Built in England by a working shoemaker with over 20 years of experience. Nine graduated steps from 3mm to 5mm — the full range needed for traditional welt construction. Accepts welts up to 20mm wide.

Materials: brass channel on oak wood base

Dimensions: 120 × 25 × 25mm

Steps: 9-step taper, 3mm to 5mm

Max welt width: 20mm

How to Use

  1. Secure the welt mill on your left knee using the leather stirrup strap, held in place with your left foot
  2. Select the brass step that corresponds to the welt thickness required
  3. Place the 20mm leather welt into the brass channel, grain side facing down
  4. Rest a sharp broad blade on the selected inclined brass step
  5. Gradually pull the leather welt through to create an even, uniform thickness
  6. Repeat across all nine positions to achieve thicknesses from 3mm to 5mm

The Mukshy Difference

  • Solid brass channel — precision machined for a consistent cutting surface across all nine steps. Brass resists wear and maintains accuracy over years of use
  • Oak wood base — dense, stable and built to take the pressure of repeated welt pulling without flexing or splitting
  • 9-step taper (3–5mm) — covers the full range of welt thicknesses used in traditional Goodyear and hand-welted construction
  • Handmade by a working shoemaker — designed by a craftsman who uses this tool in his own workshop. Every dimension is based on real shoemaking practice
  • Made entirely in England — no outsourcing, no shortcuts. Built in-house from start to finish
