Handmade brass welt mill used for thinning wet leather welts to a required thickness ranging from 3 to 5mm. Used by shoemakers, cobblers, leathercraft enthusiasts, and DIY shoe repair.

How to use the welt mill

  1. Secure the welt mill on your left knee using the leather stirrup strap, held in place with your left foot.
  2. Select the brass step that corresponds to the welt thickness required.
  3. Place the 20mm leather welt into the brass channel, grain side facing down.
  4. Rest a sharp broad blade on the selected inclined brass step.
  5. Gradually pull the leather welt through to create an even, uniform thickness.
  6. Repeat across all nine positions to achieve thicknesses from 3mm to 5mm.
