A once-in-a-generation find for the serious craftsman. This complete set of 10 hand stitching awls was made by George Barnsley of Sheffield — one of Britain's most revered tool makers — in the 1970s. No longer manufactured, these are new old stock: untouched, hand forged, and ready to work.

Each awl features a deep rosewood turned handle with brass ferrule, hand forged high-carbon steel needle, and a blade profile engineered for a specific task. Together they cover every hand sewing need a shoemaker, saddler, leathercrafter or bookbinder could face.

The Set — 10 Awls

  • Awl 1: Straight hook awl — 6" tool, 2" needle, 2mm hole
  • Awl 2: Curved hook awl — 7" tool, 3" needle, 2.5mm hole
  • Awl 3: In-seam stitching awl, flat curved — 6" tool, 2" needle, 2mm hole
  • Awl 4: Large welting awl, curved — 7" tool, 3" needle, 3mm hole
  • Awl 5: Large curved diamond awl — 7" tool, 2¾" needle, 3–5mm hole
  • Awl 6: Small welting awl, deep curve — 6" tool, 2¼" needle, 2mm hole
  • Awl 7: Straight awl — 7" tool, 3" needle, 3mm hole
  • Awl 8: Small narrow welting awl — 6" tool, 1¾" needle, 1.75mm hole
  • Awl 9: Seat awl for heel stitching — 7" tool, 3" needle, 2mm hole
  • Awl 10: Special welt sewing awl — 6.5" tool, 2.5" needle, 2mm hole

Note: needle lengths are measured when inserted into the handles.
