A traditional shoemaking component made in England by British United Shoe Machinery (BUSM), Leicester. New old stock from the 1970s — expect minor surface rust marks, which do not affect performance.

Used by shoemakers, cobblers, shoe repair shops and bootmakers to support the foot arch and give high heel footwear a sturdy, structured insole.

Fitting Guide

1. Position the shank between the heel seat and ball of the foot, just below the arch of the insole.
2. Ensure the curved profile follows the natural arch of the insole — the raised curve should face upward toward the foot.
3. Secure in place by cementing or tacking to the insole board before lasting.
4. Cover with the sock lining or insole material as normal.
